Easy Crochet Afghan Pattern

by A.Roddy

The following is an easy crochet afghan pattern made up of just single crochet stitches. You will need approximately forty-five ounces of yarn in assorted colors and a K crochet hook. Gauge is not really important for this crochet afghan pattern a long as the squares measure nine inches each.

For the single crochet, hook through chain or stitch and draw up a loop. Yarn over and draw through two loops. To increase, work two single crochets in one stitch. To decrease, draw up a loop in next two stitches. Yarn over and draw through three loops.

To begin the pattern, chain two. Work two single crochets in second chain from hook. Chain one and turn. Work two single crochets in first stitch, single crochet in next stitch, two single crochets in last stitch, turn.

Work two single crochets in first stitch, single crochet in next two stitches ,two single crochet in last stitch, turn. Continue in this matter until twenty-three rows have been completed or nine inches.

Now you will begin decreasing the square. Work one single crochet decrease. Single crochet across until last three stitches and decrease. Repeat this row until two stitches remain. For border, work single crochet around the square with three stitches in corner. Fasten off.

You will have fifty-four squares the afghan is completed. Whipstitch squares together with a tapestry needle. This makes an easy crochet afghan pattern for beginners and a nice carry-along project.
